DLA WSZYSTKICH PAŃSTWA ZAMIESZCZAMY PONIŻEJ ZWYCIĘZKĄ RECENZJĘ:

The film I saw a few weeks ago and I would like to write about is “Das weisse Band. Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte” (“The White Ribbon. The German Story of Children”), a drama directed by an Austrian director Michael Haneke. This work was produced in 2009 in Germany, Austria and France. “The White Ribbon” was appreciated by critics and consequently won many famous and international awards such as The Best Foreign Language Film award at the 67th annual Golden Globes and Palme d’Or in Cannes. It was also an Oscar nominee in two categories: as The Best Foreign Language Film and as The Best Cinematography.
Everything starts in 1913 in a small, quiet German village, Eichwald. One day the peace is disturbed by an accident, when a village doctor (Rainer Boch) falls down of his horse. It is not an unhappy event: someone deliberately intends to make a muddle. But who and for what reason? No one knows. However, it is not the end of strange circumstances. It is not difficult to notice a weird behaviour of a group of children, especially siblings Klara (Maria- Victoria Dragus) and Martin (Leonard Proxauf). They vanish for many hours, formally because they are willing to offer their help to Karli (Eddy Grahl), a retarded son of the village midwife. After the case of the doctor there are more accidents which no one can explain. The one who observes all that happens and tries to uncover the truth is a teacher (Christian Friedel). After some time he begins to find out who is guilty...
But it is not an only aspect of the film. We can observe the Protestant way of upbringing children, we can see how Klara and Martin’s father and pastor in the local church (Burghart Klaussner) tries to kill in them factors, which could perhaps make them bad people - he does it in a very strict way. In the whole film parents are depicted as serious, severe masters, whom children should unconditionally imitate. However, adults are not innocent - baron (Ulrich Tuhur), the owner of Eichwald, exploits his workers, and it turns out that the doctor is an incester who harms his teenage daughter Anna (Roxan Duran).
For many, “The White Ribbon” is also an attempt to explain how Nazism was born. A few first sentences of the film are significant: “I don’t know if the story which I want to tell you is true. (...) But I think I should say about these strange events which took place in our village. Perhaps they had something to do with events in this country”.
Although not everybody enjoyed this production after seeing it, I cannot find any weak points of it – especially as far as acting is concerned. For me every actor acted brilliantly, but the children deserve the greatest admiration. It is stunning, when a 3-year old boy can perfectly act a scene considering life and death question. Among the cast there are no “well-known superstars”, but the actors did their job magnificently. I have seen “The White Ribbon” with Polish subtitles - and, in my opinion, it is the best solution. Thanks to it the viewer could feel the atmosphere of seriousness and strictness, which is sometimes breathtaking - the language is harsh and often unkind. What is important, there is no music and special effects during the whole film. It is not necessary - the plot is gloomy enough and there is no need to make it more.
I would recommend “The White Ribbon” to everybody, no matter what age the viewer is. It is very comforting that there are still films which don’t have to have a quick plot, brand new special effects and Hollywood actors. As I mentioned, the film can be also treated as an attempt to show in what circumstances future Nazis grew up,  children, who 20 years later – at the beginning of WWII, were adult and powerful. The symbolic white ribbon as a sign of innocence is also meaningful and triggers, as the whole film, reflections which are relevant in our contemporary world.
